K-CLASS VAPES THUNDER ENDURO SEASON 1 – MID SEASON REVIEW

NIKEMIKERULES goes in to the second half of the season with a 60points lead.
5 rounds down, 5 to go, to be crowned the Overall Champion in season 1 of the Thunder Enduro. One driver currently dominates, but In the classes, teams and forever forward things are far from clear. Here we have a look back in those championships, and a look forward to what may happen over the second half of the season.
OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Nikemikerules left the traps in a hurry at Silverstone in round 1, and hasn’t looked like being caught since. The first two rounds were well won by the RML Mazda RX7, but the Pi’ drop in to the A’s has hit the car hard for outright pace. This hasn’t stopped Mike from building up a 60 points lead though, lack of consistency by rivals, and punching well above the cars weight, especially at Maple Valley has left him a great position to be crowned the Champion at season end. Of the remaining rounds, Mugello will be extremely difficult for the underpowered car, Spa will not be though as he will be back to 750Pi for the season finale, and don’t be surprised to see him bookend the season with a win there either. On first half of the season form, he would be a very deserving Champion, he just won’t want any further days like the one he experienced at Road Atlanta.

CelticFox has driven superbly all season to be 4th overall in the championship
Behind Mike, it’s been a tale of inconsistencies and missed races. Pre-season favourite Bradderstig has missed two rounds, which has helped Mike massively. But the fact that Mike has beaten Bradders in a straight fight this year shows that the Mazda driver deserves to be ahead of his rival in the Championship. All in the paddock are shocked that Bradders hasn’t won a round, it may be difficult for him to do so before Spa as well. SleazyBet would have given massive odds on him going a season without a win. The second Honda of FKart5 has been inconsistent, although unlucky to not give the team a win last time out at Maple Valley. FKart5 is quick and has driven with a lot of maturity so far this season, taking his time to pass cars, and any accidents have not been his fault. He is certainly not to be discounted in finishing in the top 3 of the championship. Also challenging for the top 3 is CelticFox. The Quicksilver run Dodge Viper has been brilliant all season, and a spot of bad luck in the early rounds saw some points lost. The team has done a fantastic job with the American Sports Car, and Celtic has got every last tenth out of the car. Two other drivers, who have shown championship challenging pace, are WeebIlly and CarcrazyCal. Billy has only done two rounds in the Mercedes 190, which has looked a fantastically balanced car, whilst the Sauber run Alfa is a beast of a car, but Cal was peerless at Road Atlanta winning that race, and he has had some misfortune since then that has not given him the results he has deserved. Both of these are capable of a win in the second half of the season. The last two drivers, who could possibly be in the top 3 at season end, are the KRR Lancia pair of RangersRick and BMR Sutton. Both have won a round, and Rick is very much in the hunt for three titles, but more of that in a bit. To be honest though, BMR Sutton could have been Mike’s biggest rival for the title. He missed the opening round at Silverstone, and then drove brilliantly in the next 3 races. A disaster at Maple Valley has cost him dear and left him down in 5th overall. Don’t be surprised to see him score strongly in the second half of the season
TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Team Cheetah were the favourites at the start of the season, and hold a 4 points lead at the midpoint. The Honda NSX05 has been strong on the fast flat circuits, but struggled a little over the more twisty circuits that have evaluation and bumps in them. If this is true, then Mugello should be good for them, Laguna should be difficult. The two drivers are strong, but if the team are to win the title they need Bradders to do more that 3 rounds in the second half of the season. KRR run second, and the Lancia has been a dream for the team. Running in two different drives, has been a masterstroke, Rick quicker at some circuits, BMR Sutton at others. The car has been good on tyres and fuel as well which has helped. The battle between them and Cheetah couldn’t be closer. RML are third and certainly not out of it, but they have been hampered a bit of late with the Pi drop to one car, and the absence of the second car scoring points. It will be harder for the team to catch the top two, but with Mike back to 750Pi at the last round, and second driver Robraceruk returning from a break at Mugello with a 750Pi against lower Pi cars, you won’t write them off making a late charge for honours. The only other team now in the hunt is Cerberus and the pair of Escorts. Devil Lord and Kinkycowboys have consistently scored well, and the Pi of the cars going into the last 5 races, give the pair a real chance of scoring a lot more points in the second half of the season, than they did in the first. These two have consistently racked up the results and are still with a powerful car, they just need both cars to finish in the top 6 at the same time.

CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS
So at the half way point, Nikemikerules leads the Class series by a single point and Class C by 9 points. The later is a whole win ahead, and Mike is looking comfortable there, but the Class championship is proving harder for him due to the fantastic competition he has had, although that isn’t to say Class A for AWD is any easier. RangersRick currently leads that by a single point over Devil Lord, the latter has been brilliant at building up the points week after week, especially as he failed to score through no fault of his at Long Beach. Devil and teammate Kinky have looked equally matched in the Escorts, and work well as a team, they consistently score well and go unnoticed in the races doing it at times. These two though have A Big Pie Key breathing down their necks, only 4 points adrift. The Nissan GT-R showed up for round 2, and CK Motorsport has done a fantastic job with the Fanta sponsored car. For a big car, it seems to handle brilliantly and the wheelbase makes it good in the corners to. A Big Pie Key has driven well and would have had more podiums if for a bit more luck. He may have a struggle to win the Independent championship due to the form of Quicksilver, but he could certainly end up like Devil lord, of lifting the Class A, and Class championship itself, so all to play for him and the team. These aren’t the only potential winners in class A, as both Kenty and Mad have threatened to score big as well. Mad has been the frequent flier off the grid every Tuesday, the Focus making up places on the first lap with regularity, but it’s been hard on tyres and thirsty on fuel. Mad was so unlucky to not register the biggest shock of the season at Long Beach, and the win if it had come would have been done so on merit, after beating Bradderstig and BMR Sutton in a great scrap. The new MaD Motorsport team look set for a good second half to the season, as NorlinRacer made his debut at Maple Valley. Norlin drove a sensible race and picked up team and class points and Mad might sneak into Class contention with his teammates help. As for Kenty, it has been hit or miss for the DMR Hyundai Veloster. Kenty has been fast at Hockenheim and Long Beach, but then had horrible days at others. The Hyundai is a quick car, and seems a bit more forgiving than the Focus when it comes to tyres and fuel. Kenty is far from out of winning the class, but will need more days like Hockenheim and less like Maple Valley if he is to do so. Team mate Penfold has struggled, flashes of pace have been seen but setting the car up to his liking has hampered things a bit. Don’t be surprised to see him in FWD trim next season. The last 3 teams scoring in the class have been DARE, BADCUBS and CM Motorsport. The latter in the form of CQR Rob, has been fast, the Volvo unlucky not to have scored better, but the car hasn’t been reliable and has the paddock rumour doing the rounds that the driver has left the team to drive elsewhere. BADCUBS Honda Civic has left an impression on the eardrums where ever it shows, and both drivers have showed good pace on the rare entries into the Championship. Cubs drove well in a new car at Silverstone, and seemed to enjoy the long races, and Badbeat had a strong run at Long Beach. As for the DARE Lotus Evora, well lead driver Hoppers has been enjoying his racing greatly, even though the results have been lacking. They have some tracks coming up that may work well for team and driver, and the rumours of a second car joining Hoppers on the grid. Last AWD car is that of Devilsbogeyman. He showed up the Alfa, later taken over and converted to RWD by Sauber on Media Day, looked at the discarded Subaru of Alert-It at Silverstone, and then moved to the Mercedes A45. The Fyffe Flyers are on a massive steep learning curve, but they are getting quicker and more consistent with each round and the team have to applauded for doing things their own way.

Could Cerberus pair of Devil Lord & Kinkycowboy steal the Class A title?
So Class C for RWD. Well Mike leads comfortably, and the same guys chasing him overall are chasing him in the class to. He has far from wrapped this title up, but the likes of Sutton, FKart and CelticFox need to find real constancy to stop him winning this. Down in 8th and 10th are the 2 DART run Ferrari’s, who started the year in the 288 GTO and now find themselves in the 355. Lead driver Major Raver would be in the top 5 of the class championship if not for points lost over a technical issue, and has shown good pace, especially in the second half of races. Team mate Wambogini arrived late into the series, and is matching his team mate over one lap, and with a bit more constancy he is capable of a shock result in the second half of the season. Also on the scoreboard are Robraceruk and Captain Storer. Rob has never looked really comfortable in the RML Mazda, unlike his team leader, and in fact he looked quicker in a Subaru BRZ on media day than the rotary engine car. Rob returns for Mugello and don’t be surprised to see him score better in the second half than the first, the Pi of the car and his speed leave him capable of a podium result with the tracks left. Captain Storer and Alert-It, struggled from day one. The Subaru on Media Day looked a real handful; to the extent second driver RGreenwood hated it. The replacement BMW M2 looked better, and showed promise at both Hockenheim and Road Atlanta, and then the team vanished. The car has massive potential, rumours abound that DART and Sauber had it flying in testing, and with the Munich concern determined to have a presence on the grid, don’t be surprised to see it return in season 2 with the car ran by someone else. Although Alert-It vanished, RGreenwood has resurfaced.in the Team HARD run BMW M3, and although he is unlikely to make all the remaining rounds, he will be present for some. The car looked the part on its debut at Road Atlanta, and in the hands of Diboor ran strongly and at a pace similar to other AM drivers in the THORS series. Commitments may keep the team boss off the grid, but he has done well to sign RGreenwood, and if the car gets a wet race, conditions Greenwood has always gone well in the past in, then don’t be surprised to see them do well. Lastly was the late entering Honda NSX 02 of Atom Stew. Stew has joined the grid in the last two rounds and shown excellent one lap pace, but the car has looked a lot more of a handful than the Team Cheetah 05 version, and thus the results have been disappointing so far. Saying that though, many people in the paddock believe Atom Stew capable of a win in the second half of the season.
Class B has failed to see a runner, pre-season testing saw a Nissan Juke running for Basslinejunkio, but the car has yet to make an appearance, and in fact we may not see a FWD car until next season. So who will win the classes and class champion. Nikemike is favourite in Class C, but Class A and overall is so wide open; you would be brave and foolish to even bet on the outcome.

The racing front to back has been entertaining in the first 5 rounds
This has been a bit distorted by the fast drivers who miss rounds. Carcrazycal currently leads, helped by his charge through the field at Road Atlanta, and Bradderstig and WeeBilly are certain to score well when they return. Favourites for the title could possibly be Kenty76, who bar Maple Valley scores higher than his qualifying pace, and Devil Lord who again is another to finish better than the one lap pace he has.
So that’s the first half of the season done, we have had some great racing, great battles, funny moments, controversary and scandal. All signs are that the second half of the season will be great, with close racing and some Championships going down to the wire. Four winners so far, I am going to guess we have 3 new ones joining them in the second half of the season.

Different cars, becoming equally matched has left close racing

Close racing, and very clean, bar the odd mishap :)
