Lime Rock welcomed the Classic WTCC and Modsports, for their debut rounds as a championship. 16 cars entered the first two touring car races of the day, and the jumbled random grid for race 1, saw havoc at the first corner as both WeeBilly and Kenty got massivally airbourne. The early laps were dominated by the pair of Cerberus Audi's, but it wasn't long until the mighty Ford Sierra Cosworths of Bradderstig and CQR Rob got to the front, and they were only denied a DARE 1-2 when Nikemikerules passed Rob for second in his tail happy BMW M635. NitroRush mnanaged to pick his way through the carnage for a superb ProAM victory, whilst Wambogini was a very impressive 7th in winning the AM Class.

Race 2 saw the grid reversed and WeeBilly took advantage to score his first win in the BMW M3, Bardders and Mike both charged through the field to finish off the podium positions. Their was entertainment down the field though, as the two Cerberus Audi's took each other off when fighting for 5th place, the 5th place going to the ProAM winner for the second time today, NitroRushmini. In AM we had a different winner, as Basslinejunkio took the little VW Golf to class honours with a 10th place overall.
The first ever ModSports race was a lively affair, with close racing from a very varied grid of cars. We had FWD, AWD and RWD cars, American muscle, Historic and Saloons amongst the 15 car grid. After the first 8 laps of the race, the top 12 were separated by less than 10 seconds, which proved the closeness of the racing, the Pro guys although coming out top at the end, but really having to work for the Podium places. Kenty led the early laps in his ex Thunder Enduro Hyundai, chased hard by BasslineJunkio in the Ford Escort Cosworth. Mike led the charge of the Pro's, but his Mustang was delayed allowing WeeBIlly to take up the charge and win the first round. It was a real game of cat and mouse, some cars were quicker in the corners and some on the straight, and this was evident with second place Bradderstig, whose Mazda was brilliant in the slower stuff, but breathless on the faster bits. Impressive in third was the Hoppers Sport FWD Scirocco of RangersRick, whilst KinkyCowboys weathered the storm and took a fantastic 4th and ProAM honours. The AM spoils fell to Wambogini who had a race long mega battle with NitroRushmini, Devil Lord, Major Raver and Robraceruk, that went down to the very last corner.

Le Mans was dark and gloomy for the second meeting of the season. Race 1 was for the Classic WTCC and it was dry as Major Raver led the field into the first corner, although he failed to lead them out as he messed up the braking massively, and fell off on his own. Chanmpionship leader Bradderstig wasn't having a great start to the day either as he was helped in spinning his Cosworth. This all left Kinkycowboys out front, in what turned out to be a fantastic battle between his Audi, the two BMW's of WeeBilly and Nikemike, and the second DARE Cosworth of CQR Rob. These 4 had a fantastic dice, with the older BMW of Mike coming out on top by only a second as the rain started to fall in the closing laps. Kinkycowboys was impressive in winning ProAM in 4th overall, whilst the VW Golf of Basslinejunkio took AM honours in 8th, the little car rapid in the dry.

The second race saw the grid reversed, and once the two DART Alfa's had fallen off again, it was left to the Audi's to take up the fight, as Nitro and Kinky battled out front. WeeBilly was awesome in the rain and was in front by the end of lap 2, where he stayed to record a victory and reverse the top two from race 1, Mike again his biggest challenger. Nitro held on in the wet conditions for a fantastic podium, but once again it was left to CQR Rob to have the better day out of the Sierra Cosworth's.
The Classic WTCC had given us fantastic entertainment, so it would have to take something extra special to trump that, and unbelievably the ModSports did. Out front and the Ford Mustang of NikeMike stormed off into the lead, only to make a quick pitstop on lap 12 that dropped him back to 5th. This now left WeeBIlly in charge and hoping to make it two wins on the trot with the Mercedes, Billy beating Bradderstig by 9secs. The podium was finished off by Nitrorush, who had a great dice over the last lap with Mike and CQR Rob. It was the battle for 6th that had the most entertainment, at one time it was a battle from 5th to 13th. Up to 9 cars played their part, swapping places lap after lap, and it was the cleanest close racing you will ever see. Both Cerberus Audi's were involved, as was the front wheel drive VW Scirocco of RangersRick, whilst Robraceruk and Major Raver were finding some impossible places to overtake other cars. Another to be involved in this amazing battle was Basslinejunkio, who took the AM class battle with a 9th place overall.

After a break last week, the Classic WTCC and the ModSports were back, and in America at the famous Laguna Seca Circuit. The weather was fine, although a little cloudy and the Touring Cars kicked things off. WeeBilly was quickly out front in the BMW M3 and built up a gap early on, that by the time Bradderstig had moved through to second the Benson & Hedges sponsored car was long gone. Bradders didn't have an easy second place, as newcomer J47TEE kept him honest, in another Ford Sierra RS500. The second DARE version of CQR Rob came home 4th, ahead of the first of the Audi S4's and ProAM winner KinkyCowboys. AM went to Wambogini in the much improved Alfa 155, who had a race long dice with Basslinejunkio. These two continued that dice into race two, and this time Bassline came out top in the VW Golf, with a brilliant 7th overall. Special mention must go to Penfold, who was making his debut in an ex TWR Volvo estate, as he managed to set the fastest lap in the AM class in race 2. The reverse grid of race two left the top guys at the back, and Major Raver was flying early on leading up to half distance. He was soon caught by the flying DARE Sierra's as Bradderstig and CQR Rob who swept through to win and come second, but Raver was still challenging for podiums until the most bizarre of accidents. Contact from Kinkycowboys spun the pair into the pitlane, and they dropped to back having to slowly run through the pits. This left ProAM honours to the second Cerberus Audi S4 of Devil Lord, who was over the moon for a change in fortune after a difficult season so far.
The ModSports had history at Laguna Seca from the K-Class Cup, but a different outcome. It was a truly fantastic race out front as WeeBilly held an early lead in the Mercedes, but the two DARE Mazda MX5's of Bradderstig and Posh Rob chased after him and these three had a superb battle for the podium spots. Bradders was able to get in front 5 laps from the end and hold on, WeeBilly coming home second and withstanding some massive pressure from the seond little Mazda. It was a good debut for the ex Rob Gravett BTCC Ford Sierra of J47TEE, as he came home 4th, and he wasn't far from the squabbles ahead. He led home K-Class Cup winner NIKEMIKERULES, who pitted early on, and completed an off key day for the RML driver. Kinkycowboys was the first ProAM runner home in 5th, involved in a great dice early on with Basslinejunkio and Kenty. Kenty has the Hyundai flying in this series and he held on to second in class from Major Raver and the Alfa, these two side by side through the last lap. The second Alfa took the AM honours in the end, after an off for Bass, as Wambogini finished off a fantastic day of results for him. 12th went to Hoppers in the sole FWD VW Scirocco, which was his best result of the season.

Next week sees the James Hardie 1000 around Bathurst for the Classic Tourers, the battle between WeeBilly and Bradderstig couldn't be closer.
James Hardie 1000 Classic WTCC Round 7 - Bathurst
Australia's premier motor race has always been the Saloon car race around the famous Mount Panorama, at Bathurst. For many years this was sponsored by James Hardie and known as the James Hardie 1000. Sunday saw a special round for the Classic WTCC, an Endurance race and a two driver part to lift the famous trophy.

It was a little bit disappointing that only 13 of the beautiful 80/90s Saloons showed up for race, but the drivers were paired up and the cars lined up for what would be a hard but enjoyable battle.

mugged by another 97 BMW M3 in the hands of Robraceruk. On the run up to the mountain, the two were side by side, but Robracer got it wrong and slid wide into the barriers, unable to avoid him the Alfa of Major Raver hit the BMW hard and these two were both damaged, Raver heading to the pits, Robraceruk struggling on for 2 laps with damage before he decided to pit. Another to get caught up in this was the VW Scirocco of Kenty, and he joined Raver in the pits at the end of the first lap. This gave the lead over the mountain to RangersRick, who was under massive pressure from 3 Ford Sierra Cosworth, led by CQR Posh Rob, the tail happy version of J47TEE, and Bradderstig. These though had WeeBIlly in the older BMW M3 on their tail and determined to get through the gaggle of Ford's. Rick was holding on to the lead, and swapped this twice in the early laps with J47TEE who got up to second, but finally Bradderstig made it to the front, and then WeeBilly, these two having a fantastic dice on track as they are in the
championship. Pitstops came mid race, Bradders stopping at the end of lap 11, WeeBilly a lap later. Bradderstig set the lap record on lap 14, but the little BMW was brilliant over the mountain section and WeeBilly held on to win the race. RangersRick had driven well to third, holding off CQR Rob and J47TEE, the latter needing an extra pitstop which dropped him down.

The James Hardie element paired the drivers up, and the pairing of Basslinejunkio with RangersRick and Wambogini with Bradders looked the favourite on paper. The two pro drivers were out front fighting for victory, whilst the AM runners did the same mid pack. The little VW Golf of Basslinejunkio was a joy to watch and led early on, but damage slowed it in the seond half of the race. Not only was the gap coming down fast, but Robraceruk who was paired with Posh Rob, and CelticFox who was paired with Kenty were flying along to and closing. CelticFox drove a lonely but good run to 6th overall, and Kenty was literally flying along in the Scirocco after his pitstop Sadly a mistake left Kenty in the wall and needing another pitstop, that dropped them to 4th at the end. Robraceruk and Posh Rob, got to within 20seconds of the leaders at the end, and with a bit of luck on lap 1 they could have been lifting the trophy. So could Wambogini catch the Golf? He run out of time, and the pairing of Basslinejunkio and RangersRick crossed the line 9 seconds ahead to lift the famous James Hardie Trophy.

The other 3 teams had a difficult race. Major Raver made many mistakes and the little Alfa was slow up the mountain, which left him and J47TEE well out of contention, whilst for Devil Lord it was a disappointing race. The Audi suffered as the Alfa up the mountain, but Devil had a few brake issues at the end of the conrod straight which caused him a lot of lost time. Finally race winner WeeBilly was partnered with Hoppers, who showed some good pace at times in the second Hoppers Sport BMW M3 97, but a few errors and extra stops meant they finished 7th in the combined results.

All said afterwards that the two driver element was great fun, and it makes a return in a few weeks at the Silverstone round for the Classic WTCC. Back to normal next week, as the ModSports and Classic WTCC race together again.
