Latest News
The big news that came out of Spain, was the retirement of Season 1 and 2 Champion Nikemikerules. Mike had a difficult first half to last season, where he seemed to struggle to motivate himself after two long seasons. SWR announced in pre-season that they had secured a deal to run the two time champ in one of their Subaru BRZ's, but he has not been seen in the car and didn't enter in round 1. All at TORC, wish Mike the very best for the future.
The Thunder Bus made its debut in Prague for the Media Night of the Touring Car Series. The VW Camper has been built and looked after by Marc Mad Davis and expect it to be present at all TORC rounds through the season.
Hyundai have announced that DSR will run their works team in the upcoming TORC Touring Cars, the car made its debut at the end of last season and showed impressive pace in the hands of Sealey. Two cars are entered for the upcoming season, and the team would be willing to build a third for the right party.
Another manufacture committing to the Touring Cars, is Mitsubishi, through its South African arm, as they supply cars to EmpireMSport. Expect the usual pair of Maj2012 and Empire to be behind the wheel. The team already more at home in the car than they felt with the Astra last season.
Gossip
Rumours were rife in the Barcelona paddock of who would be running in the second SWR Subaru BRZ after NikeMikes retirement. Names in the mix included the retired JRush95, the teams Touring Car runner Xray Energy, Millzywhite, Kenty and Maj2012. Subaru are keen to have him back after his efforts in the 22b last season, but surely he wouldnt leave EmpireMSport? Another name mentioned was CarCrazyCal who is expected to return to the series later in the season.
Is Kenty and his Renault Alpine on the way back? Stories had the West Country driver testing the French car earlier this week.
It has been suggested that the top 6 teams in the Championship next season, will be allowed to pick a support race for Season 5. Further rumours on season 5 have a muted change in the number of cars a team can run and a change in the team points.
RML with new sponsors for season 5? Rumours were rife that the 3 cars would be sponsored by Oral B, Colegate and Poligrip.
Thunder Enduro
The day started off with the Formula Mazda race, under the sunny Spanish skies. Pronag made a demon start from row 3 to dive into the lead at the first corner and he remained in front for the whole race, managing to keep Posh Rob away from him. Reigning champion Bradderstig, found himself down in last on lap 1, his Formula Mazda with no power, but a reset on the steering wheel saw the rotary engine spring into life and he drove through the field to salvage third place. Empire and RotaryRhys both scored strong results with 4th and 5th.
21 cars lined up for the main event and the dash down to the first corner was a lively one. Kidders had a made a superb start and was looking for a way to the front, but found the door closed by a combination of Plato, J47TEE and Posh Rob. As the cars turned into the first corner, a couple on the inside were a little faster and this had a domino effect, as a touch by one, into another, and another, ended up with poor Kidders being spun around in front of the pack. He sustained damage, but bigger damage had befell Devilsboogeyman and Bradderstig. It had been a terrible start from the pole sitter, who was shuffled down to 8th by the time they turned right, and he found himself right in the mayhem. A trip to the pits left him last, whilst poor Devilsboogeyman was terminal damage and was left on the side of the track and retirement. PMR Plato was away out front and opened up a bit of a lead on lap 1. CQR Posh Rob was soon giving chase and these two had a race long battle out front, Posh Rob closing but not able to find away past. Three laps from home and the Honda made a mistake and Rob was through and it was now his turn to withstand the pressure, doing so and holding on in the dash to the line. The podium was finished out by the second KRR car of RangersRick, who lapped at the pace of the front two but wasn't able to close the gap down from the time he lost on the opening laps.
The two Cerberus Camaro's finished in the top 6, sandwiching the Lamborghini of Celtic. It was a good drive by all three of these, especially Devil Lord in 6th who is still learning RWD, his drive through the field after being 17th on lap one was one of the highlights of the race and earned him the driver of the day. For Kidders it was damage limitation, for J47TEE it was a disaster. The Alfa runner recovered to finish 11th and grab some points, whilst the usually very reliable Lancia cried enough and left J47TEE losing valuable points in the championship. Bradderstig lost his championship lead, but drove superbly to finish 7th overall. The fight up top in the Championship is now so close.
In AM, and Badbeat drove superbly to lift the honours, taking it easy in the early laps, he showed some lighting pace late on and comfortably won the class at the end. Penfold salvaged second, and the fastest lap in class, whilst Scarlet Witch rounded out the top 3 in class with third having led early on.
Over in Class A, and the debut of AtomStew threatened to give Empire a hard day, but the Honda was still unsorted and retired early on, leaving Empire to lead home Penfold in the Class. The South African driver now has a good lead in the class and the likes of Mad and AtomStew will need to work hard to bring that gap down.
Teams & Drivers:
BTC Honda Civic: AtomStew DNF
The Honda made its debut, but although it showed some promise it wasn't a successful day. Stew was caught up in the first corner mayhem and then had an electrical failure on lap 8. Car looked competitive compared to the rest of Class A, although maybe a bit heavy. The team will be hoping to get on top of this for Long Beach.
Cerberus Chevrolet Camaro 02: Devil Lord – 6th, Kinkycowboys 4th
After the disappointment of round 1, this was a good day for the reigning Champions in the teams. Kinky ran second early on and was always in the battle for the top 5, whilst Devil Lord drove superbly from the back, to finish 6th, and only slower than the top 3 runners. Both cars struggled in the faster corners, but were amongst the quickest on the straights and out of the corners, which bodes well for next week. DEVIL LORD DRIVER OF THE DAY
Cerberus R&D Mazda MX5: Bradderstig 7th
A difficult day for last seasons Champion, although showed his class with his fightback. The little Mazda was swamped on the line and then picked up massive damage in the first lap scuffle. Left him on a two stop and he drove superbly to get back up to 7th. Team will be worried though about the pace of the car at some of the faster circuits to come.
DARE Alfa 4c: Wambogini 14th
Team let him down on Pi, but he drove well to pick up his first points of the season. Good start left him in the top 10 early on, although he dropped back as others recovered, he also lost time demolishing the pitwall entrance. Great battle in the second half of the race with Empire for 13th place, the pair swapping poistions regularly. Valuable time behind the wheel and at 770Pi next week will trouble the point scorers again.
DART Alfa 4c: xKidders 11th, Major Raver 8th
Fine margins make a big difference. Kidderss was so close to leading into turn 1 and it could of been such a different day, instead he was spun and damaged and had to play catch up. An innocent party in the first corner accident, he carried the damage until his pitstop window was open. He then showed decent pace and made his way back up the order, enjoying a great dice with Robraceruk late on, but his tyres were shot through the earlier stop. Team mate Raver was spun to last on lap 1 again, but faught back and finished a promising 8th, after a great late dice with Pronag Racing. Their season will start in Long Beach.
DMB34 BMW M2: Devilsboogeyman DNF
Terrible luck for Devilsboogeyman, who made a demon start, but got caught up in all the carnage. Car so badly damaged that he couldn't make it back to the pits and retired on lap 1 very dissapointed.

Penfold and Badbeat battled again.

A difficult debut for AtomStew in the new Honda.
EmpireMSport BMW M3: Maj DNS, Empire 13th
The no show of lead driver Maj was a bitter blow to the team, but Empire gave them a lift with another Class A victory. In the top 10 early on, he drove a sensible first half of the race and stayed out of trouble, entertained the crowd with a fantastic dice with Wambogini for the last 13 laps, which he came out on top of. Will be hard to beat in the Class championship on his current form.
Hooligan Racing Mazda RX7: RotaryRhys 17th
His car looked truly terrible, and that it didn't want to stay in a straight line, Rhys biggest achievement was actually doing a a clean lap. Is he overdriving as well? Upset the leaders again when being lapped, he also gave the marshalls plenty of work in relaying the gravel traps. Showed promise in the support race, so his pace is their in a car that suits him.
Hoppers Sport BMW M3: Hopperswwfc 18th
Very down after the race, but once again showed some promising pace although lacks consistancy. Second in class early but then the concentration went and left him needing a second stop for repairs. He is closer to the pace of the AM class runners than ever before and that should lift his spirits in the rounds ahead.
Horizon with Scruffs Chevrolet Camaro 16: Pronag 9th
The big Camaro did the race on one stop which was a relief for the driver. Car was heavy on the brakes and tyres which saw him drop off at the end of each stint. Had a massive battle with Major Raver late on, some superb battling by the pair, may have beaten him if his tyres were a bit fresher.
KRR Racing Honda NSX 02: RangersRick 3rd, PMR Plato 2nd
The Honda's had looked quick in testing and it didn't disappoint come race day. Plato took advantage of the first corner to take the lead and keep a gap to his rivals. Under massive pressure late on from Posh Rob, he felt a problem with the steering and an off 3 laps from home saw him drop to second. Tried hard to regain the lead and finished right under the winners spoiler. Team mate Rick had a more difficult opening few laps that left him playing catch up. Kept out of trouble from their on in, and actually lapped quicker in the second half of the race then his teammate. These two are well in the Championship battle for overall honours.
Monster JamSport Honda NSX 2005: WeeBilly DNE
Did Not Enter
Quicksilver Lambogini Countach: CelticFox 5th
Quicksilver were worried about whether the thirsty engine could do the race, but it did and it was a great result for the team. Another to get through the first corner in one peice, Celtic spent the race within the top 5, the car quick on the straights and also half decent in the corners. One of the drives of the race
RML Ferrari 355: Mad DNE, Robraceruk 10th
Down to one car, after Mad needed three wisdom teeth to be removed. Team mate Rob went well early on, and was in the top 10, but then seemed to lose abit of pace before his first stop. Quick again after his stop, he was closing on the battle between Raver and Pronag, before his attention was on the fast approaching Kidders in his mirrors. That lost him time on the two ahead, but he managed to beat off the second Alfa and will be pleased with a decent points haul.
RML Devolpment Ferrari 355: Penfold 17th
Came to the race full of hope and left it a little dissapointed, but shouldnt be as he scored well. Didn't have the pace to match his rivals here, he still finished second in Class A and AM, and took the fastest lap in the latter. Struggled with damage early on, he plugged away and scored his first points of the season. In past seasons he would of been left in retirement, but Season 4 Penfold is made of strong stuff.
SMEG Racing Honda NSX 02: Badbeat 12th
Brilliant drive by Badbeat, who worked his way to the front of the AM class and then started picking off ProAM drivers. Loving the Honda, his pace was impressive and if it wasnt for such a careful approach early on, he would of possibly been in the top 10 overall, which shows how much he is improving.
SWR Subaru BRZ: CQR Posh Rob 1st Place
Beaten into the first corner, he took his time getting back up to second and then slowly closed down the leader. Kept Plato under pressure throughout, it finally paid off three laps from home where he snatched the lead and held on to it. Jumped for joy at the end, he takes the Championship lead as we head off to Long Beach.
SWR with Prostate Cancer Subaru BRZ: Scarlet Witch 16th
A lot better performance from Scarlet, who led the class early on but settled for third at the end. Took advantage of the first corner to run 10th, and looked comfortable in those early laps, until Penfold and Badbeat appeared in her mirrors. Her pace compared to these two was good, and she will be fighting them for class honours through the season.
Team Hard Porsche Cayman: RGreenwood DNE
Did not enter.
TOS Lancia 037: J47TEE DNF
Unlucky day for J47TEE. Innocently caught up in the first corner accident, he tried to drive round the damage until his pitstop, so as to save time on repairs. Car though didn't last that long and the engine went on lap 6 leaving him in retirement and very dissapointed on the ground lost in the Championship. He will be a pre race favourite in Long Beach.

Kidders is sent spinning across the track at turn one.

A great recovery drive from Devil Lord in the Camaro.
Touring Car Sunday - Media Night
TORC Tourning Cars - Media Night
Media day kicked off on Sunday night with a massive first for the TORC series it was to be a collection of wacky races with no holds bar racing all damage turned off and just to see if you could make it round the track obviously with the presentation of the new seasons cars being shown off too. So lets get down to it. We kicked off with the VW campers these were completely stock, driven with no tunes the race saw us at Prague full circuit and only three laps with the speed of the buses this was all it was gonna need. 11 campers turned up at the start line in random grid formation headed by Robracer in the PG Tips livery, until the first time up the hill all racers kept hold of there race positions and all four wheels on the ground but a wrong gear change in the by Mad saw him slip from 2nd to 10th and that's how it looked the race was going to be won on slick gear changes up the never ending hill. Into the first town section for the first time, we saw Kidders and the Vengabus bus driven by kinky come together to drop them both off the poduim postitions and down to fourth and fifth. The last corner was always gonna be the highlight of the two wheeled action and on the first lap it was Rotaryrhys who was the first to try his hand at stunt driver leaning on Pronag, who just managed to make it through unscathed, followed by Mad doing exactly the same thing, but unbeleivably ono one ended up on there side! End of lap one and Robracer still in front and with an impressive lead over the rest of the field but a slight slip on gear changes going up the hill saw that lead eaten away and the recovering Bradderstig was on the charge. Last corner antics again, this time led by Kinky, Devilsboogeyman, RotaryRhys and Hoppers, saw them all find the outside tyre wall it was like synchronised crashing. End of lap 2 and Robracer lead was coming down as both Bradderstig and Kidders were closing but this was now Robs race to lose and that he did in spectaclur fashion being the first camper to roll over on the very last corner! Bradders chopping on the bit to take advantage, but wait Bradders got jealous of Robs roll and decided he wanted a go as well, which left it wide open for Kidders to take the chequered flag followed by the recovering Rob in second, Xray in third, Kinky 4th Bradders 5th Seeley 6th Mad 7th Pronag 8th Devilsboogeyman 9th RotaryRhys 10th and Hoppers bringing up the rear. In all the race was slow but with some dramatic crashing to spice things up, the entertainment facture obvious with the smiles on everyones faces.
On to Silverstone and the Main attraction or so you would think and its Media day and lots of shiny new cars on display, although a number of teams missing as they are working out late deals. RML had two cars on the grid and have kept with the 2009 FWD Focus and the same sponsors but they do fit the car and team well. Pronag in the BMW 1M saloon wearing its livery very nicely J4tee in the Honda Civic is looking very quick no livery as yet but I'm sure it will be unveiled soon Devilsboogeyman in a brilliant coloured BMW 1M looked amazing and definitely one of the nicest liveries seen today. Hoppers was giving Alfa their debut in the championship, I kept hearings about the livery wasn’t finished but with Hoppers is it ever finished? I'm sure that car will have more paint jobs this season than races. Kidders with a sweet looking golf having signed a deal to join Major Raver and RangersRick in the DART team. Bradderstig and Kinky in the 555 Sponsored Subaru looks like a car with a lot of potential and the talent of the team is definitely there. Xray Energy was present in his focus from SWR looking like the team needs a bit of money coming there way wow that's a lot of sponsors. Seeley in the Hyundi Velostar sponsored by Rokit looks like a very quick car and his been seen in the thunder enduro format and showed a lot of potential then so we shall see. RotaryRhys in the monster energy merc A45 looks quick but can the new driver keep his nose clean only time will tell. All joking aside the cars look great and with the close racing of last season it looks to be a great series going forward good luck chaps.
So serious business out the way and the wacky races continued and I am telling you now it only got worse from here on next up was the limos at long beach full track the cars did eight laps, the fun and games started before the race did when the Marshalls were seen with one of the cars down at the hairpin just making sure it would fit but on to the race and random grid again and the cars are even crazier than last time the liveries were very out there with a rainbow car and a tampax sponsored one and the presdential limo made an appearance, carnage is all I can say 25 foot cars with no brakes and a roundabout was never going to go well but to two cars on top of the roundabout and another car sideways through it was definitely entertaining. The cars handled on the same level as a P&O ferry but the drivers were having great fun and it was definitely entertaining for the crowd no wall was safe in this race. The first time round the hairpin saw the first three drivers take it like they were in there touring cars absolute precision as for the rest of the field not so much the crashes just got more and more entertaining from going straight on at corners, to side ways cars going straight across the track this all lead up to a road block on the last lap which I will add was dreamed up by Bradderstig I know what your thinking but its true he does have a wacky side. I'm not gonna lie I missed half the race rolling around the floor laughing was definitly a good way to blow off some steam for the drivers. I would tell you the grid positons but I dont think it needed them.
On to the craziest race I have ever seen and it was the F1 cars on the tiniest track in Rio I think my street at home is longer oh well on to the race and the liveries were very tame and all sported ones from there formula 1 heroes all I can say is driver assists were key here it was like watching swan lake with the spinning cars on every part of the track and what a lot of rubbers being used four drivers stood out and who were actually trying to get round properly although I think the others drivers were but the cars had other ideas. I think out of the whole race three clean laps were recorded and they were from Kinky, Kidders and Hoppers all in all a very entertaining race but maybe a bigger track was needed. Now these wacky races went on into the night and I think I heard through the grape vine that the finale was somersaulting ford transit vans I'm sure you can find pictures of this some where on the internet. I really hope these races happen again was amazing to see the drivers relax and have a laugh for an evening, here's to the next one.
Marc "Mad" Davis.

Pronag took the support honours in style.

The VW Bus's around Prague were great entertainment.
