Latest News

No doubting it has been a tough few weeks for the series Admins, and talks and a clear path forward seemed to help on Tuesday in Sonoma.  The last few weeks had seen a number of incidents that had caused unhappiness across the two nights, and the admins released a number of new penalties and ideas that will hopefully allow everyone to concentrate on the racing again.

The TORC Touring Car race saw the end of RotaryRhys, who was disqualified and given a ban for a week, after corner cutting and ramming incidents in all three races in Germany.  His team Hooligan Racing were unhappy with the decision, and left the series, but no one was left in any doubt that is was fully justified..

Other Si's went against EmpireMSport and CQR Posh Rob.  EmpireMSport was unhappy with his and left the series (please see gossip), whilst many felt the five second pen to CQR Posh Rob was a little lucky in its severity and should have been bigger.

J47TEE was another to withdraw from the series this week due to work commitments.  THE TOS driver was disappointed to have to pull out, but hopeful of a return if commitments allow at a later date.

Gossip

With EmpireMSport quitting the series, what of the cars and equipment?  Well Maj has taken ownership of the team for the rest of the season, the pair of BMW's showing up at Sonoma minus sponsorship and in black paint.  The team are hopeful of keeping the team going as they are for the rest of the season.

DSR to join the Thunder Enduro?  The team have done a very good job in the  Touring Car Series and it is believed they have looked at the ex DMR Run Renault Alpines and Hyundai's in AWD format.  It is thought that Hyundai would be keen to back them

DART down to two cars in the Touring Cars?  Major Raver walked off in a huff in Germany, he was last seen buying a Bratwurst hotdog and getting drunk in a bar on apple Schnapps, whilst singing Dexy's midnight runner songs.

RML looking to change cars for Season 5.  It is believed Lotus are courting a return to the team and series, that proved very successful in Season 2.

Track Toys in Season 5 being allowed?  Possible, as Lotus have been lobbying to allow them.

Thunder Enduro

Driving Standards had been the main topic of conversation after Hockenheim, and the chief steward greeted all in the paddock with a set of revised regs for the season, that seemed to get support from most.  A few drivers were missing, although we had a few returning, one being WeeBilly in his Honda NSX.  The decision was to run the races in the late afternoon, with the race finishing under near darkness.

The Clio cup was the support race, and Pronag proved last season at Lime Rock, that he is a little handy in the iconic French cars, as he stormed through from a lowly grid slot to win the race.  Posh Rob tried hard to keep up, but had to settle for second and Elite class honours, whilst RangersRick filled out the podium places.  It was a hard race for Bradderstig, who lost time early on, and finished behind Devil Lord, in 5th place.  The AM class went to Badbeat, who led the race outright early on and finished 9th overall after a great late dice with CelticFox.

The Thunder cars looked fantastic with their lights ablaze, and the Ferrari of Robraceruk made a blinding start to lead the field into turn one, PMR Plato also getting the drop on pole sitter JRush to grab second place as they headed up the hill.  The opening couple of laps were a little fraught, both JRush and Plato losing time with a coming together in the esses that slowed them and a few others down, whilst leader Robracer got the chicane all wrong and lost his lead to the second KRR Honda of RangersRick.  The end of lap two may prove to have a big bearing on the destiny of this seasons title.  On the run down to the final corner Posh Rob was having a look at the Ferrari, whilst Bradders sensed an opportunity, and the three cars headed into the fast bend side by side.  Although he had the inside line, Robracer sensed it could end in contact and lifted, but the title rivals didn't and the two cars ended up making contact, the Mazda hitting the wall hard, spinning across the track where it made slight contact with Devil Lord.  That slight contact was a disaster for the following, an unsighted CelticFox behind, who may have got through if the Mazda took its natural path, but instead the Lamborghini hit the Mazda hard and both cars were heavily damaged.  Rick wasn't comfortable out front, as through the mayhem, WeeBilly had been picking off place after place and now found himself amazingly in second place.  With the lower Pi, the KRR version wasn't in a position to withstand the Monster sponsored version, and Billy was soon through into first place.  For the rest of the race, Billy lapped superbly without mistakes and took the victory, his first since Le Mans in Season 2, by 38 seconds.

Rick had looked the favourite to grab second, and held the position until lap 20 when he made a mistake and went off, luckily with no damage, but the time lost dropped him to 4th which he was unable to recover from.  Had he not made that mistake, he would of left Sonoma as the Championship leader.  CQR Posh Rob was keen to take advantage, but he was in a right old scrap with Pronag and the big tank of the Camaro.  This was not a track expected to suit the Horizon run car, but Pronag was in inspired form all day and managed to take the second place, his best ever Thunder Enduro result.  Posh Rob ended up third, but he and Bradders had to survive a protest to the incident that happened at the end of lap 2.  Both avoided further penalty, the Mazda driver blaming himself, but some in the stewards office believe they should have shown the same caution as Robracer had.  Bradderstig could only come 17th, whilst Robraceruk fell to 14th.  The Ferrari seemed to lose pace as the race went on, but it wasn't all bad for the team.  Mad drove well to take 8th place and the first all wheel drive car home, whilst the sister car of Penfold took second in that class as well as in AM.  The battle in AM this season has been a highlight and Penfold and Badbeat were at it again, but for the second race on the bounce they were battling for second in class.  RGreenwood had returned in the Team Hard Porsche, and he like Billy took advantage of some of the mayhem in the first two laps.  The Porsche looked a real handful, but as the race went on the driver seemed to get a real hang of the German car, and was driving really well.  Although he started to slip back down through the top 10 and out of it, he was keeping the gap constant to the battle AM pair behind, and fully deserved to lift the class honours.  Penfold was initially behind Badbeat, but an extra stop for the Honda helped to give the Ferrari the advantage, and another bonus point for fastest lap put the Ferrari level on points with the SMEG Racing Honda.

The 4th driver showing championship form, Kidders came home in tenth place, an achievement as he is still feeling the effects of a leg operation just over a week ago, and at a track the little Alfa's seemed to struggle at.  The lone Cerberus Camaro of Devil Lord came home 5th, followed by the brilliantly tail happy BMW of Maj, who entertained all with some fantastic angles that he had the car in over the mountain.  The 6th place was a massive lift for the team.  JRush came home 7th, a little disappointing after his pole position, he was in a mighty battle for the first half of the race with the second KRR Honda of Plato, but showed real podium pace once clear.

So this was a complete disaster for Bradders, who now needs both Posh Rob and Rick to have a bad round to bring him back into the title fight.  5 different winners, this season is proving really hard to predict, and the first two heat race next week at Laguna Seca, will surely add to that unpredictability and excitement.

BTC Honda Civic: AtomStew DNE

Did not enter.

Cerberus  Chevrolet Camaro 02:  Devil Lord – 5th,           Kinkycowboys DNE

Good result for the Camaro, Devil Lord always within the top 6 and withstood great pressure from Maj late on to secure 5th place.  Second car for Kinkycowboys was missing and did not enter.

Cerberus R&D Mazda MX5: Bradderstig 17th

Complete disaster for the Championship leader going in to Sonoma.  Thought the Mazda would be stronger here, but contact with title rival ended his hopes and the damage was to much to allow him to recover.  Now needs some luck to go his way to get himself back in the title hunt.

DARE Alfa 4c: Wambogini 15th

Like the sister team, DARE opted for the lighter engine and car, but it made little differnce as the Alfa struggled here.  Showed similar pace to Raver, he managed to hold off Penfold to grab the last Championship point.

DART Alfa 4c: xKidders 10th,           Major Raver 11th

Kidders and Raver took the 3.7ltr engine out, and although the car was faster, it wasn't fast enough.  Both struggled with low grid slots, Kidders did well to take tenth, although he was holding on at the end.  Team mate Raver acted as rear gunner and had a great late dice with RGreenwood and the recovering CelticFox.

DMB34 BMW M2: Devilsboogeyman 19th

Showed good pace early on, Devilsboogeyman lapped within a second of the class leaders.  A few problems later in the race left him down in 19th place, but he is getting closer to that class podium.

Robraceruk leads the field up the hill.

Pronag drove brilliantly to take second place.

EmpireMSport BMW M3: Maj  6th,                            Empire DNE

The team did a great job getting a car on the grid, after the owner walked away.  Maj entertained with some great sideways moment in the BMW, and chased Devil lord hard for 5th late on.  He is confident of a strong second half to the season.

Hooligan Racing Mazda RX7: DNE

Did not enter.

Hoppers Sport BMW M3: Hopperswwfc 20th

Another struggle for Hoppers, who found this circuit difficult to master.  Hoppers Sport will be hoping to work closely with EmpireMSport for the rest of the season..

Horizon with Scruffs Chevrolet Camaro 16: Pronag 2nd

The big Camaro was not expected to do well around Sonoma, but it was a brilliant drive by Pronag, his best result yet.  Didn't have the pace to challenge WeeBilly, he took advantage of the error by Rick and did a mighty job to keep Posh Rob behind him.  With his stunning performance in the support race as well, it was a great day for the driver and the team.  DRIVER OF THE DAY.

KRR Racing Honda NSX 02: RangersRick 4th,           PMR Plato 9th

Rick led the charge of the Honda's again, and was disappointed with 4th.  Second for a long time, he went off just after his stop on his own and lost valuable time and places, that he was unable to recover.  He is second in the Championship though, not far off the lead.  PMR Plato had a few problems on the first lap, and contact left him spinning down the field.  Had a very good battle with JRush in the first half of the race.  He needs a string of good results as a Championship challenge is still possible..

Monster JamSport Honda NSX 2005:  WeeBilly 1st

From last to first in 3 laps for WeeBilly, who then drove a faultless race, disappearing into the night sky.  The 2005 didn't like these types of circuits in Season 1, so it was a great job by the team, as Billy looked to have a brilliantly set up car.  It's just a shame he misses rounds, as he to is in the title fight.

Quicksilver Lamborghini Countach:  CelticFox 12th

A very disappointed driver at the end who felt a podium was on.  Unlucky to be caught up in the accident between Posh Rob and Bradders, he needed to make two stops.  Drove well to get up to 12th late on, and enjoyed a fantastic dice in the closing laps with Raver and RGreenwood.  Where would he have finished without the damage though?.

RML Ferrari 355: Mad 8th,                           Robraceruk 14th

Mixed fortunes again for RML.  A very good performance by Mad to finish 8th and win the Class A battle.  Mad was competitive in the top 10 all race.  Robraceruk led early on, and was very savvy to not get caught up with the accident at the end of lap 2.  Didn't seem to have the pace though, and fell back to 14th which surprised many.  Admitted he found the chicane a problem.

RML Development Ferrari 355: Penfold 16th

Did what he had set out to do and beat Badbeat, although had to settle for runners up in the class due to the inspired RGreenwood.  Chased down his rival early on, he took advantage midrace and then tried hard to get in to the top 15th.  Made very few errors again, enjoying his driving and it shows in his constant performances.

SMEG Racing Honda NSX 02: Badbeat 18th

A little disappointing for Badbeat, who had set competitive times in testing.  Was second in the class for a while before Penfold got past him.  Needed a second stop for repairs, he goes into the half way point joint leader in the AM Class.

SWR Subaru BRZ: CQR Posh Rob 3rd         JRush 7th

Championship leader again, it was a good day for CQR Posh Rob with a podium and Bradderstig scoring badly.  Tried hard to beat Pronag, although the Camaro had a bit to much speed for him, he was glad to have enough in hand to beat the recovering Rick.  JRush got stuck in a great battle with PMR Plato for the first half of the race which slowed his progress.  Jumped the Honda in the pits he then put in some strong lap times and moved up to 7th.

SWR with Prostate Cancer Subaru BRZ:  Scarlet Witch DNE

Did not enter.

Team Hard Porsche Cayman: RGreenwood 13th

It's been a really difficult couple of seasons for the team and driver, but this was a great showing which bought AM Class honours.  Had a good if not scrappy opening few laps, he got the big Porsche into the top 10.  Then drove with massive maturity in picking his battles, he lost precious little time and only just missed out on 11th late on after a great tussle with Raver and Celtic.  Was overjoyed to win his class and show the potential of the Porsche.

TOS Lancia 037: J47TEE DNE

Hot brake discs in the setting Sun, for the Clio race

Touring Car Sunday - Rounds 3 & 4.

There was little doubt that Robraceruk had the advantage and took it in style last week by starting on pole, so how would he do this time around with starting last in Round 2 of the Beetle Cup?  He drove a really steady race that moved him through to 11th and with it kept his Championship lead in tact going into the 2 week break.  The guys out front were those at the back last week in Silverstone.  Maj made a fantastic start and like Rob the week before disappeared in to the distance and victory.  Raver couldn't live with him and his mirrors full all race of Bradderstig, who managed to get the Elite built car on to the podium with third place.  RangersRick drove well for fourth, whilst good results for Empire and Devil Lord, leave them second and third in the title race.

The Sprint race for the TORC Touring Cars started with controversary on lap one.  RotaryRhys took advantage of the run off area's at turn one and two, to not only pass cars, but also make some heavy contact on re-joining the track.  Out front and Major Raver had made a great start in his VW Golf, but on the back straight Empire left his braking far to late and the two cars ended up making contact, the Golf damaged.  The loss of time left them both out of the running and at the back, Raver needing a stop for repairs.  Out front and Bradderstig was loving the fact the Honda's hadn't showed and took full advantage to get the Subaru in front by lap 3 and head towards victory.  Behind Posh Rob and RangersRick were having a great little tussle, unable to live the Cerberus car, they were joined by the BMW of Pronag, who made it a three way dice for the runners up spot.  Rob held firm, whilst Rick was happy to win Pro, as was Pronag in ProAM.  AM honours went to Devilsboogeyman in 10th, who drove a superb race and was in the top 3 early on.  Other good performances came from Robraceruk in 5th, and the two DSR Hyundai's in 10th and 11th who both got innocently caught up in the first lap contact on the back straight.

The mood at the start of race 2 was not the best, many unhappy with the performance of RotaryRhys in the earlier races, and these moods didn't improve, as the Hooligan Racing Mercedes repeated the performance in the feature race.  Major Raver led early on chased hard by the two EmpireMSport Mitsubishi's, Empire letting his teammate Maj pass on lap 2.  Maj could keep up with the Golf but not close, and this remained until lap 10 when the sight of Posh Rob and Bradders loomed large in his mirrors.  Rob made it through on lap 12 and tried to close the gap to Golf out front, which was leading by 2 seconds. On lap 15 Bradders stopped the Subaru, hoping to jump the two in front, Rob now desperate to overtake the Golf, but he was unable to do so, the DART Car quick this battle now allowing the second Golf of RangersRick to close in as well.  At the end of lap 16 Posh Rob attempted to pass onto the pit straight, he got the better exit, but started to overtake when still attached to the Golf's bumper and not past it, this causing the leader to spin into the pit wall.  Both drivers pitted, Posh Rob re-joining still in second, but Raver had lost so much time with the damage he had dropped to 11th.  Unhappy he parked up and stormed off.

Bradders now led up front, 7 seconds clear of the battling Posh Rob and RangersRick.  The SWR Focus managed to hold on, but the SWR Focus was hit with a pen after the race, meaning the positions were reversed and Rick took the runners up spot.  Fourth place went to the brilliant Gizzard, who battled through the pack in the ever improving Hyundai, and managing to hold off the second Subaru of Kinkycowboys.  Both the Mitsubishi drivers felt they lacked boost, so were happy with Maj in 6th place, just a head of the ProAM battle between Pronag and Sealey, the BMW driver just coming out, top but its was another good result for the DSR team.  It was a difficult was for the other Subaru, the two two RML Ford's and the final Golf, all unhappy with the driving of Rhys, who was disqualified form the meeting after the race.  AM honours agian went to Devilsboogeyman, who enjoyed a great little scrap late on with Penfold, the two only a second a part at the flag.
